Ken | כן

Dance Solo (60 min) · 2024

A person is standing . Mouth wide open. She belongs with the people of naked sounds. Syllable-chorus from ancient times. She alarms. It isn’t the first time, nor the last one. Nearly frozen. Still here not gone. She is a mix of the before and the after. She must reconstruct. Ken. Sound over sound act over act body over body, they labor for methods of existing within unbearable realities.

Ken | כן is a full-length solo dance piece deals with a reality of chaos and destruction and the sovereignty for alternatives of existence raising from it.

Observing chaos as a fundamental pattern of existence, naturally breaking systems and structures, the piece seeks to physically live through the various conflicts it raises as such.

Driven by the effect of chaos not only in its scientific entity but also in its sociopolitical role, Goshen engages with personal and collective events of extreme disruption. She learns the physicality of chaos that shatters boundaries and limitations. The shock caused by a structure’s collapse. The forces’ collision of ruins and survivability. Chaos that creates not repetition but evolution. Chaos which is in each and every one of us, as well as in all of us as one. She asks where and how in a singular body, her single body, lies the power of ‘many’.

The piece offers an exposed peek onto a journey for emphasizing existence.

Hinting at Goshen’s origins, the name of the piece has a meaning in Hebrew, ‘KEN| ‘כן means ‘Yes’. Goshen withdraws from the verbal to the physical. Yes, as in accepting and testing more than one way, more than one truth, more than one reality. Yes and again Yes and again Yes will result in the beauty of chaos.
