Voice of my People
Documentary (87 min) · 2025
This emotional and uplifting documentary traces the journey of the extraordinary and inspiring activist Islam Alijaj to the Swiss National Council. Together with his community of loyal supporters, he makes history throughout his political campaign and career.
Islam Alijaj has a physical disability and a severe speech impairment. Despite his seemingly hopeless position on his party’s electoral list, he managed—almost miraculously—to win a seat on the Zurich City Council over a year ago.
The same story is now repeating itself for him. This time, however, the goal is much bigger. He is running for the Swiss National Council—once again from a position with little chance of success. And once again, he and the many people supporting his campaign are achieving the seemingly impossible.
Islam Alijaj is a political phenomenon, and “Voice of My People” is not just any campaign documentary. The film is a piece of contemporary history and will resonate with everyone who values inclusion and participation and who loves heroic stories and films with a positive message.
